Dense coatings on flexible materials by energy-efficient room temperature PVD

This proposal is for a new product idea for coatings at room temperature on thin foils (~100 micrometers) in the packaging and food industry, where low transmission of moisture (water vapor) and oxygen from the air is required. The product is a new type of coating in the MeSiON product family, with a new customized interfacial layer.

It can be made dense with low transmission of moisture and oxygen. Today's barrier layers are typically insufficient to limit the flow of moisture and oxygen simultaneously.

The product can contribute to energy efficiency compared to current thin metallization layers, through an energy-efficient PVD process at room temperature without the need for heating.
