Solar cells panels make a limited use of the Sun’s radiation as their efficiency is typically limited to about 20%. The rest of the energy is wasted to the environment in the form of heat. In the cooler months with limited solar radiation heat is a valuable commodity and it makes sense both from the economic and environmental point of view to utilize this wasted energy for heating homes and office spaces.
The project aims at developing highly efficient hybrid solar panels which generate both electricity and heat with a combined efficiency exceeding 80%. These panels are also designed to be used in conjunction with a heat pump to fully satisfy the heating and cooling needs of homes and spaces.
The project also aims at developing technologies which make use of recyclable materials and is thus is an important step towards the efficient and sustainable use of renewable energy sources.
