The rechargeable Lithium-Ion-Battery (LIB) is a key technology for a fossil-fuel-free economy, providing society with greener energy and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. However LIBs also have high negative environmental impact and there is a need to identify sustainable substitutes for components.
Ecohelix polymer “WOODMER” is a high-performing wood-based biopolymer that provides a novel solution to disperse Carbon Black, LIB anodes and cathodes, possibly improve their performance, sustainability and stability. WOODMER is derived from locally sourced and abundantly available cellulose processing side streams.
The aim of this project is to improve the performance and environmental profile of LIBs and thereby contribute to Sweden’s energy and electrification policies and overall resilience. The project targets three areas of development, innovative research that benefits Swedish companies, emission reduction and enabling resilience through green transition.
