The project aims to investigate the potential of a Swedish pellet-driven CHP (Comb. Heat & Power) system, to create locally produced energy to tackle the problem of energy shortages in Sweden at certain times.
The project consists of a consortium, which contributes with its respective competencies including a commercial partner in Kvänum Energi AB, which sees this technology as an interesting offer to its customers in the segment up to 1000 kW (thermal) capacity.
Attempts have been made to create electricity and heat using a pellet powered Stirling engine and proven the concept. However, those projects have been based on very small engines with a low degree of development. These studies were also carried out some time ago, when the energy price was lower and environmental thinking was not in focus in the same way.
TEXEL works with a larger, more developed Stirling engine which, in combination with thermal storage and pellet burner from Swedish Janfire, forms the basis of the system.
