Energy system for partial electrification of the Gotland ferry

The project aims to study and produce a basis for partial electrification of the Gotland ferries at the same time as an effective interaction in the local energy system is created to meet the electricity needs with the help of renewable electricity.

With electrification of the ferries 'auxiliary systems, which represents 10% of the ferries' energy use, energy efficiency of up to 80% can be achieved within the auxiliary systems.

At the same time, CO2 emissions are reduced by about 10% for the entire operation of the ferry through a developed energy system with solar cells, batteries and charging ashore.

Electrification of the auxiliary systems also enables the shipping company to offer fossil-free charging of electric cars while the ferry is running, and thus further contributes to the electrification of the transport system.
